Also, no worries if you can’t make a whole day. Any help you can lend will be greatly appreciated.

Athens Greenway Restoration – Saturday Event

Hey everyone,

hope you’re all doing well.

I got this message from Ellison, one of the Athens Greenway Assistants:

The Greenway is having an invasive removal this Saturday at the College & MLK Greenway park. They’ll be meeting at 9am this Saturday the 14th for an hour or so.  Anyone interested can join, they’ll be meeting in the parking lot at College & MLK before getting started.

FYI, the Greenway has work days every 2nd and 4th Saturday and are always looking for more volunteers. Parts of the Greenway have become home to a wide variety of invasive species that they have been trying to tackle over the last year or so.

Questions? contact Ellison at:

Broad River Canoe Trip/River CleanUp

Title: Broad River Canoe Trip/River CleanUp
Location: Broad River Outposts
Start Time: 10:30
Date: 2009-04-04
End Time: 16:00
Description: EGB will be hosting a CanoeTrip/River CleanUp on the Broad River. It’s only about a 20-30 minutes ride from Athens. Broad River Outposts is helping to sponsor this event. They’re going to provide us with half price canoes/kayaks ($10 a pop) and will shuttle us back to our cars at the end in return for helping clean up trash we find along the way. We’ll have a couple of canoes just to hold refuse. If any of you haven’t done this trip before, it’s a great little stretch of river and especially beautiful this time of year. We start at 10:30 sharp. Load the boats, get on the river by 12:00 and be out of the water by 4:00. Dress appropriately – no cotton. Make sure to water-proof items you plan to bring on the boat. There will likely be future events like this.

To avoid bringing a ton of cars to the Broad River Outpost on Saturday, let’s meet at 10am at the gravel parking lot at the intersection of Lumpkin and Wray St. (across the street from Caldwell Hall) so that we can carpool.  If you need to drive seperately, that’s no problem, but the less cars we can take, the better.

Again, spread the word about the canoe trip/cleanup to friends and classmates.  We’ll be keeping an eye on the weather and let you know if we’ll be rained out Saturday.

Ryan Graycheck is heading up this event, you can contact him at rpg013@uga.edu or use the contact page on this site.
